The FLEXIMOUNTS 4 by 8 foot overhead rack mounts to ceiling joists and creates up to 105 cubic feet of storage above the garage floor. It is rated for 750 lbs and load-tested to 1200 lbs, a 1.6x safety margin, which is the number that matters when the thing is over your car. Six included hooks hang bikes, ladders, and extension cords from the underside. The frame uses a steel pipe design with mesh panels that connect without a full bolt-together assembly, and hardware is M8 rather than the thinner screws typical at this size. Height is adjustable to suit your ceiling. Best fit: seasonal bins, camping gear, and holiday storage that currently occupies the floor space where a car is supposed to go.

Pros

  • 750 lb rating with 1200 lb load testing, a real margin on overhead storage
  • Up to 105 cubic feet reclaimed from the garage floor
  • Six hooks on the underside for bikes, ladders, and cords
  • M8 hardware and steel pipe frame instead of the thin screws common at this size

Cons

  • You must hit ceiling joists, so a finished or truss-limited ceiling can complicate the install

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to mount it into?

Ceiling joists, not drywall anchors. You will need a stud finder to locate and mark joists. If your garage has an unusual joist spacing or engineered trusses, verify the span before ordering.

How much clearance does it need above a car?

The height is adjustable. Measure from your ceiling to the roof of the tallest vehicle that parks under it and set the drop accordingly, leaving room for the loaded bins themselves.

Can one person install it?

Possible but not pleasant. Holding a 4 by 8 frame overhead while driving lag bolts is a two-person job for most people. Budget a helper and a couple of hours.

Is 750 lbs the real limit?

750 lbs is the rated capacity and it was tested to 1200 lbs. Stay under the rating, and distribute weight across the rack rather than concentrating it at one end.
