The stud finder that lights up the whole stud, not a guess mark

Is this the right fit?

Best for
anyone hanging heavy shelving, TVs or cabinets who has been burned by a single-sensor finder, and renters who want to anchor into framing on the first try
Skip if
It is roughly triple the price of a basic one-sensor finder, which is hard to justify if you hang a picture twice a year

The Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210 is a deep-scanning stud finder with 13 individual sensors across a 7-inch face. Instead of beeping once as you sweep, it lights the LEDs that sit over solid material, so you see the full width of the stud and both edges in a single press with no calibration step. It scans to 1.5 inches deep through drywall, plaster and subfloor, reads wood and metal without a mode switch, and includes a live AC wire warning that flags energized cable before you drill. Best fit: anyone hanging heavy shelving, TVs or cabinets who has been burned by a single-sensor finder, and renters who want to anchor into framing on the first try.

Pros

  • Thirteen LEDs show both stud edges and the center at once, so you can mark dead center instead of guessing
  • No calibration press or warm-up, you set it on the wall and push the button
  • Finds wood and metal on the same setting, no mode switching
  • Live AC wire warning flags energized cable before you drill

Cons

  • It is roughly triple the price of a basic one-sensor finder, which is hard to justify if you hang a picture twice a year

Frequently asked questions

Does it work through lath and plaster walls?

It scans to about 1.5 inches deep, which covers most plaster over wood lath. Very thick plaster or walls with metal mesh behind the plaster can give inconsistent reads, which is a limit of all electronic stud finders, not this model specifically.

Do I have to calibrate it before each scan?

No. There is no calibration sweep. You place it flat on the wall and press the button, and the LEDs light immediately.

Will it detect metal studs and pipes too?

Yes, it reads both wood and metal on the same setting without switching modes. It will also light up over copper pipe and conduit, so check what you find before you drill.

What is the difference between the M210 and the cheaper M150?

The M210 has 13 sensors across a 7-inch face plus live wire detection. The M150 has 9 sensors and a narrower face, so you see less of the stud at once.

Does it need batteries?

Yes, it runs on standard AA batteries rather than a rechargeable pack, so there is nothing to charge before a project.
