The 8BitDo Pro 2 is a Bluetooth gamepad that pairs with Switch, Switch 2, Windows, macOS, Android, Steam Deck, and Raspberry Pi. This Hall Effect edition replaces the standard potentiometer joysticks with magnetic Hall Effect sensors, which means no more stick drift — the most common Joy-Con and Pro Controller failure mode. The retro SNES-inspired shape gets the gamepad community recommending it as the most comfortable third-party Switch controller. Two back paddles let you map shoulder-button a

Pros

  • Hall Effect joysticks use magnetic sensors instead of potentiometers, so they never drift like Joy-Cons
  • Two back paddles you can map yourself, no more thumb gymnastics for shoulder buttons
  • Profile switch on the back: Switch, Xbox, Android, macOS layouts without re-pairing each time
  • Works with Switch 2 out of the box, also pairs with Steam Deck and Raspberry Pi

Cons

  • Wired connection works for everything but not for Switch console mode, you have to use Bluetooth on Switch

Frequently asked questions

Will this work on Switch 2?

Yes. 8BitDo confirmed Switch 2 compatibility and this edition is sold with Switch 2 support listed. It pairs the same way as a Joy-Con.

Does the Hall Effect version look different from the standard Pro 2?

The exterior is the same. The difference is internal: the Hall Effect sticks have a different feel right out of the box (smoother, less default deadzone), and they don't develop drift over time the way the original Pro 2 sticks can.

Can I use it on a PC?

Yes, via Bluetooth or wired USB-C. There's a profile switch on the back so you can toggle between XInput (Xbox-like, used by most PC games) and Switch mode without re-pairing.

Does it use AA batteries or rechargeable?

It ships with a rechargeable battery pack (about 20 hours per charge), but you can pop the back off and swap in two AA batteries if you're out of power mid-session. Best of both worlds.
