The Klipsch R-100SW is a powered subwoofer with a 10-inch front-firing spun-copper IMG woofer and an all-digital amplifier rated at 300 watts peak. It exists to fix the specific thing stock TV speakers and most soundbars cannot do, which is reproduce low frequencies with any authority. Explosions, film scores, and bass lines all live below where a thin cabinet can go. Front-firing means it is less fussy about placement than a down-firing sub. Controls cover volume, low pass crossover, and phase, which let you blend it with your existing speakers rather than having it announce itself. Best fit: a receiver-based system, or a soundbar with a sub output.

Pros

  • 10-inch spun-copper IMG woofer with a 300 watt peak all-digital amplifier
  • Volume, crossover, and phase controls let you blend it rather than have it stand out
  • Front-firing driver is far less placement-sensitive than a down-firing design
  • Line level LFE RCA inputs work with standard home theater receivers

Cons

  • It needs an LFE or subwoofer output, so a basic soundbar with no sub connection will not drive it

Frequently asked questions

Will it connect to my soundbar?

Only if the soundbar has a subwoofer output jack. Many soundbars pair only with their own wireless sub, so check for an LFE or sub out before ordering.

Where should it go in the room?

Corners increase output but can make bass boomy. A common approach is to place it where you sit, walk the room until the bass sounds even, and put the sub there.

Is 10 inches big enough?

For most living rooms, yes. A 12-inch sub moves more air for large open spaces, but a 10-inch is easier to place and blends more readily with bookshelf speakers.

What do the crossover and phase controls do?

Crossover sets where the sub takes over from your main speakers, and phase aligns its timing with them. Both exist to make the sub disappear into the system.
