The Sonos Move 2 is a portable smart speaker that finally moves Sonos's portable line to true stereo: two angled tweeters create a wide soundstage from a single enclosure, while the redesigned mid-woofer pushes deeper bass than the original Move. Battery runs 24 hours on a single charge, more than double the original. Pairs over both WiFi (Sonos multiroom) and Bluetooth (anywhere your phone goes), with simultaneous use so the same device can stay grouped to your home system while a guest plays f
Pros
- Two angled tweeters deliver true stereo from a single speaker, a meaningful upgrade over the mono original Move
- 24-hour battery is more than double the original Move and outlasts most other portable smart speakers
- Simultaneous WiFi and Bluetooth means the speaker stays in your Sonos multiroom group while a guest plays from their phone
- IP56 rating plus shock-absorbent housing handles backyard parties, pool decks, and drops onto patio tile without worry
Cons
- At 6.6 pounds, it's portable for moving room to room but not for tossing in a backpack on a hike
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without WiFi?
Yes. Move 2 plays over Bluetooth completely offline. WiFi unlocks Sonos multiroom features, voice assistants, and AirPlay 2.
Can it pair with another Move 2 for stereo?
Yes. Two Move 2 units stereo-pair over WiFi through the Sonos app. They cannot pair over Bluetooth, only over the Sonos network.
How long does it really last on battery?
Sonos rates it at 24 hours at moderate volume. Real-world testing comes in around 20 to 22 hours at backyard-party volume, less at full output.
Is it waterproof or just splash-resistant?
IP56 rated, which means it's protected from dust ingress and strong water jets. It can survive being splashed, rained on, or hosed off, but it's not designed to be submerged.
