A STRICH modular wall system: a 48.6 inch aluminum slatwall rail with 5 steel hangers that slide along it, plus endcaps and fixed clips. The rail approach solves the spacing problem with individual hangers, where you measure, drill, and then discover a wide-body acoustic will not clear the guitar next to it. Here the hangers slide, so you rearrange instruments without new holes. Each hanger rotates 360 degrees to angle different body shapes closer together, and the rubber-padded yokes protect the headstock. The rail is detachable and can be spliced to extend. Note that the drilled holes for drywall anchors should be 6mm, since oversizing them is the common cause of a rack pulling loose. Best fit: collections and studios.

Pros

  • Hangers slide along the rail, so you rearrange the collection without drilling new holes
  • Each hanger rotates 360 degrees to angle bodies closer together and save wall space
  • Thick aluminum rail with steel hangers and rubber-padded yokes to protect headstocks
  • Rail is detachable and spliceable, so the system extends as the collection grows

Cons

  • Installation is unforgiving: the anchor holes must be drilled at 6mm, and going larger can let the whole loaded rack pull out of the wall

Frequently asked questions

How many guitars does it hold?

Five, using the 5 included adjustable hangers on a 48.6 inch rail. Because the rail is spliceable, you can extend the system if the collection grows.

What size holes do I drill, and do I need studs?

Each drywall anchor hole should be 6mm, or 1/4 inch. Drilling larger is the stated cause of a rack loosening. Given the combined weight of five guitars, anchoring into studs wherever possible is strongly recommended.

Will it fit acoustics and electrics on the same rail?

Yes. The hangers rotate 360 degrees to accommodate different body shapes and slide along the rail, which is how you fit a wide-body acoustic next to a thinner electric without them colliding.

Will the hangers mark my guitar necks?

The hangers use soft rubber padding at the contact points. As with any hanger, if you have a vintage nitrocellulose finish it is worth checking the contact area periodically, since prolonged contact with some materials can affect that finish.
