Proven seller pick: 4.6 stars on the Marshall Emberton II Cream, the portable speaker that sounds genuinely good without needing an app, with the brand heritage to actually look right on a shelf.
Pros
- True Stereophonic technology delivers an actual soundstage instead of the boxy mono most pocket-size speakers ship with
- 30-plus hours of playtime per charge means you almost never plug it in unless you forget to charge it for two weeks
- IP67 dust and water resistance covers patio rain, pool splashes, and the occasional drop in a wet sink
- Brass control knob is the whole interface, no app pairing or firmware nag-screens just to play music
Cons
- No built-in microphone for hands-free calls, and no stereo pairing of two speakers (the Stockwell II and Emberton III added that)
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without WiFi or an app?
Yes. The Emberton II is pure Bluetooth 5.1. There is no required app, no WiFi pairing, no account setup. Open Bluetooth, pair, and play. The optional Marshall Bluetooth app exists only for EQ presets if you want them.
Is the sound actually stereo from one speaker?
Marshall calls it True Stereophonic. Two opposing 2-inch drivers and two passive radiators are tuned to create a wider perceived soundstage from a single unit. It is not as wide as two physically separated speakers, but is clearly stereo rather than mono.
How loud does it actually get?
Loud enough for a backyard dinner party of 8 to 10 people, a medium kitchen, or a dorm room. Not loud enough for an outdoor party of 30+ people, which is what the Stockwell II or larger Tufton is designed for.
Can I pair two Emberton II speakers for true stereo?
No. The original Emberton II does not support stereo pairing. The newer Emberton III added that feature. If true two-speaker stereo matters, look at Emberton III or the Willen.
Will it survive a beach day?
Yes. IP67 means full dust seal and water immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Sand, splashes, dropped in the pool, all fine. Rinse with fresh water afterward and dry the USB-C port before charging.
