The Bedsure orthopedic bed uses a solid egg crate foam base rather than shredded fill, which is what keeps it from compressing into a flat pancake under an older or heavier dog. Bolsters run around three sides for head support, and the outer cover unzips completely and goes in the washing machine, with a waterproof liner underneath protecting the foam from accidents. Solid foam matters for joint support in a way that loose fill does not, since loose fill redistributes away from wherever the dog presses hardest. The non skid backing keeps it from sliding on hard floors. Best fit: senior dogs, large breeds with hip issues, and any household where the bed needs washing regularly rather than being spot cleaned forever.
Pros
- Solid egg crate foam base, so it does not redistribute and flatten like shredded fill
- Cover unzips fully and machine washes, not just a spot clean surface
- Waterproof liner under the cover protects the foam from accidents
- Bolsters on three sides give head support without boxing the dog in
Cons
- The foam is budget density, so a very large heavy dog will compress it noticeably within several months of daily use
Frequently asked questions
Does the entire cover come off or just the top?
The whole outer cover unzips and comes off. Underneath there is a separate waterproof liner that stays on the foam.
Can the foam insert get wet?
It should not. That is what the waterproof liner is for. If the foam does get soaked it takes a very long time to dry fully.
Is it suitable for a dog with hip dysplasia?
Solid foam gives more consistent support than shredded fill, which helps. For a large dog with significant joint issues, a higher density memory foam bed will hold up longer.
Will it slide around on hardwood?
There is a non skid backing on the underside, which handles normal movement. A dog that circles aggressively before lying down can still shift it.
