    Manufacturer specifications

A portable speaker is only useful if you are willing to take it along. Start with where it will go: inside a small bag, clipped to a backpack, strapped to something, or carried to a table. These five options cover those different arrangements.

The short version: choose the JBL Go 4 for minimum packed weight, the JBL Clip 5 for its built-in carabiner, the Tribit StormBox Micro 2 for its integrated strap and emergency phone-charging feature, the JBL Flip 6 for a cylindrical bag-to-table format, or the Bose SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen if a longer, heavier speaker fits your bag. These are use-case recommendations based on specifications, not a sound-quality ranking.

Compare the things you will carry

All five use rechargeable batteries and USB-C charging and carry an IP67 rating. JBL dimensions and weights above follow its downloadable specification sheets in preference to inconsistent storefront fields. Tribit's technical specifications list 99.8 × 99.8 × 42.9 mm, while another section gives 4.10 × 3.92 × 1.68 inches. Leave clearance rather than buying a precisely fitted pocket around those inconsistent measurements.

Read battery and waterproof claims carefully

Runtime is a planning estimate, not a guaranteed result. Volume, music and settings differ between manufacturers' tests. Nor does a higher wattage establish better sound or a precise loudness advantage. If bass balance or maximum clean volume is your deciding factor, this specification comparison cannot replace listening.

IP67 describes dust protection and limited water immersion, not unlimited underwater use. JBL specifies up to one meter for 30 minutes for these models. Bose gives the same immersion limit but says the speaker is not designed for use while in water. Rinse salt or chlorinated water away with fresh water and fully dry its charging port. Never connect a wet charging port to power.

Before buying, check the exact generation, color and package on the destination listing. This guide covers single black speakers, not accessory bundles. Pick the carrying arrangement you will use, then leave margin in your battery planning.

  1. #1

JBL Go 4 Speaker — Big Sound in a Pocket-Sized Waterproof Package

The Go 4 makes the clearest case when every bit of bag space matters. It is the lightest option here, and its short rectangular body lacks the Clip 5's tall carabiner. Its loop gives you a carrying point, but it is not an opening clip: factor in a separate attachment if you want to hang it from a bag. Its main compromise is the shortest standard battery claim in this group. Choose it for a compact day-out setup rather than assuming the smallest speaker will cover a long session at high volume.

  2. #2

JBL Clip 5 — Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker That Goes Anywhere You Do

The Clip 5's integrated carabiner is the reason to choose it. You can attach it without buying a separate clip, though you should check that the opening suits your intended loop. It is taller and heavier than the Go 4, trading packed size for carrying convenience. JBL specifies 12 hours before the optional Playtime Boost allowance. The Go 4 and Clip 5 figures depend on volume and audio content; the extra hours are mode-dependent, not an unconditional runtime promise.

    Manufacturer specifications
  3. #3

Tribit StormBox Micro 2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker, IP67 Waterproof, 12-Hour Battery, Strap

The Micro 2 offers a different attachment style in a roughly square package. Its integrated strap makes it worth considering when a hanging carabiner is not the arrangement you want. Check the mounting point before relying on it; the speaker's shape alone cannot tell you whether a particular strap or handle will fit. It also doubles as a USB-C power bank, with up to 10 W charging output. Treat that as a backup: phone charging uses the same stored energy needed for music, and Tribit does not present it as a replacement for a dedicated full-size power bank.

    Manufacturer specifications
  4. #4

Bose SoundLink Flex Gen 2: Hi-Fi Outdoor Speaker

The Flex is the longest and heaviest option in this comparison. Its nylon loop provides a finger hold or attachment point, rather than a built-in opening carabiner. That makes it a more natural shortlist candidate when you have room to carry it to a picnic table or another stationary listening spot. Bose's 12-hour claim uses Bluetooth playback at 50% volume, default EQ and 68–77°F temperatures. It is not a full-volume endurance claim. The published charging-input figure is not an audio-output rating, so it should not be compared with JBL's RMS watts.

    Manufacturer specifications
  5. #5

JBL Flip 6 Portable Bluetooth Speaker, Black

The Flip 6 offers another shape for carrying to a listening spot: its cylindrical body can stand vertically or horizontally. At 550 g it is heavier than the Go 4 or Clip 5, but slightly lighter than the Bose. Check the 72 mm depth against your bag rather than assuming all narrow-looking speakers pack alike. JBL specifies separate 20 W RMS woofer and 10 W RMS tweeter outputs; those figures do not establish a sound-quality ranking. Its claimed 12-hour runtime depends on volume and audio content. The quick-start guide limits IP67 immersion to one meter for 30 minutes and requires a dry, clean charging connection. This comparison covers the black JBLFLIP6BLKAM single-speaker package, not an accessory bundle.
