Do I need the hardwire kit, or will it work plugged into the cigarette lighter?
The 12V cigarette adapter included in the box works fine while the car is running. To enable parking mode (recording while the car is off), you need the separate hardwire kit so the cam can pull constant low-voltage power from the fuse box without draining the battery.
How long can it record before the SD card fills up?
Loop recording overwrites the oldest clips automatically, so it never fills up in practice. With a 256GB card, you typically have 24 to 36 hours of continuous footage rolling. The N5 supports up to 512GB cards.
Is the interior camera obvious to rideshare passengers?
The interior lenses are visible but small and matte black, similar to a phone camera on the windshield. Most rideshare platforms require the camera to be visible and disclosed, which the N5 satisfies without being intrusive.
Will it work in extreme heat or cold?
The N5 uses a supercapacitor instead of a lithium battery for internal power, which gives it a wider operating range than budget cams (roughly -4 to 158 degrees F). Hot summer parking and cold winter mornings both work.
Are there subscription fees for cloud storage or features?
No. Vantrue does not charge for any features, firmware updates, or cloud storage. All recording is on the local microSD card. The free app pulls clips off via WiFi when you want them.
