The Carlinkit 5.0 is a small adapter that converts a car's factory wired CarPlay or Android Auto into a wireless connection. You plug it into the USB port you would normally use for a cable, pair your phone once over Bluetooth, and after that the head unit connects automatically over 5GHz WiFi whenever you get in. It fits most cars from roughly 2015 onward that already support wired CarPlay or Android Auto, and it works with both iPhone and Android. Startup takes around 20 to 30 seconds, and there can be a small audio delay compared to a cable, which is the normal tradeoff for going wireless. It is a good fit for anyone tired of plugging in every drive.
Pros
- Plugs into the existing USB port with no wiring or dash work
- Connects automatically over WiFi after the first pairing
- Works with both CarPlay and Android Auto on most 2015-and-newer cars
Cons
- Startup takes 20 to 30 seconds and audio can lag slightly versus a wired connection
Frequently asked questions
Does my car need to already have CarPlay?
Yes. It converts an existing wired CarPlay or Android Auto system to wireless. If your car does not support wired CarPlay in the first place, this adapter cannot add it.
Does it work with both iPhone and Android?
Yes, the 5.0 model supports both wireless CarPlay for iPhone and wireless Android Auto for Android phones.
How long does it take to connect after starting the car?
Expect roughly 20 to 30 seconds for it to boot and reconnect automatically once it has been paired the first time.
Is there any lag compared to a cable?
Screen response is close to wired, but audio can be delayed by a couple of seconds when you skip or pause, which is common for wireless adapters.
