The XenonLab mattress vacuum is a handheld built specifically for bedding rather than floors, pairing 18,000Pa of suction with a 275nm UV-C lamp and a tapping head that vibrates debris up out of the fabric before the suction pulls it. A regular vacuum hose skims the surface of a mattress; the point of a dedicated one is agitation plus a sealed filter so what comes out does not go back into the room. The UV lamp only runs when the head is in contact with the surface, which is the standard safety interlock. Best fit: allergy sufferers, pet owners whose animals sleep on the bed, and anyone who has never once cleaned a mattress and is now thinking about it.

Pros

  • Tapping head vibrates debris up out of the fabric before suction pulls it
  • 275nm UV-C lamp with a contact interlock so it only runs against the surface
  • Sealed filtration keeps what it collects from blowing back into the room
  • Built as a handheld for bedding rather than a floor vacuum attachment

Cons

  • It is corded rather than battery powered, so you are working around a cable while moving around the bed

Frequently asked questions

Is the UV light safe?

It has a contact interlock, meaning the lamp only turns on when the head is pressed against a surface and shuts off the moment you lift it. Do not attempt to defeat that interlock, as UV-C is harmful to eyes and skin.

How is this different from using my regular vacuum on the mattress?

Two things: the tapping head physically agitates debris loose from deep in the fabric, and the filtration is sealed for fine particles. A standard vacuum hose mostly skims the surface.

How often should I use it?

Most people run it monthly on a mattress, or more often with pets or allergies. It also works on sofas, pillows, and car seats.

Is it cordless?

No, it runs corded. That keeps the suction constant but means managing a cable as you work around the bed.
