Kitsch's satin pillowcase is the 600-thread-count standard-size case that turned into a cult favorite for hair and skin sleepers. Satin fabric has dramatically less friction than cotton, which means less tossing-and-turning frizz, fewer overnight tangles, and visibly less of the morning hair-creasing that 8 hours on cotton causes. The cooling surface also helps if you're a hot sleeper. Hidden zipper closure keeps the case on the pillow, machine washable on cold, line dry. Sizes available in stan
Pros
- Satin friction is a fraction of cotton, so hair stays smoother and your blowout lasts longer
- Hidden zipper keeps the case from sliding off the pillow during the night
- Cooling surface is a small but real upgrade for hot sleepers in summer
- Machine washable on cold, you don't have to baby it like a real silk case
Cons
- Polyester satin, not real silk, so it doesn't have the temperature regulation real silk gives, but it's also a tenth of the price
Frequently asked questions
Is this real silk or polyester satin?
Polyester satin. Kitsch markets it as 'softer than silk' which refers to the hand-feel against skin, not the fiber. Real silk runs $80+ for a single case; this case is the budget alternative that delivers most of the hair benefit at a fraction of the price.
How do I wash it?
Cold water gentle cycle, line dry or tumble dry on low. Skip the dryer sheet (it leaves a residue on the satin that defeats the smooth feel). Don't iron it on high heat — it will scorch.
Does it actually help with hair?
Friction is the main mechanism. Cotton pulls and tangles hair as you toss; satin lets hair slide. The visible result is less frizz, fewer tangles in the morning, and longer-lasting blowouts. If you sleep in heatless curls or sock curls, satin is non-negotiable.
What size pillow does the standard case fit?
Standard is 19x26 inches, which fits standard pillows (20x26) snugly. For queen pillows go up to the queen size (20x30) and for king pillows the king size (20x36). Going one size up gives a looser fit if you prefer that.
