This is an entry-to-mid metal detector with a 10-inch IP68-rated waterproof search coil, a DSP processing chip, and a backlit LCD that shows target depth and a rough metal-type read before you dig. Discrimination modes let you filter out iron so you are not excavating bottle caps all afternoon, and pinpoint mode narrows a hit to a small area once you have found it. The shaft adjusts for height and the whole thing folds down for a trunk. The control housing is not submersible even though the coil is, so this is a wading and wet-sand tool rather than a diving one. Best fit: beach hunting, park and field searching, and anyone who has lost a ring in a yard.
Pros
- IP68 coil lets you work wet sand and shallow water, where the finds are
- Discrimination modes filter out iron so you dig fewer bottle caps
- Depth readout and pinpoint mode cut down on wasted holes
- Adjustable shaft folds down small enough for a car trunk
Cons
- The control box is not waterproof, so this is for wading, not for going under
Frequently asked questions
Can I take it underwater?
The coil is IP68-rated and handles submersion, but the control housing on the shaft is not. Wading to knee or thigh depth is fine; diving is not.
How deep will it detect?
Coin-sized targets typically read to roughly 8 to 10 inches in favorable soil. Mineralized ground, salt water, and small targets all reduce that.
Is it usable if I have never detected before?
Yes. The preset modes and the target-ID readout do most of the interpretation. Expect a few sessions of learning what the tones and numbers mean in your local soil.
Do I need a separate pinpointer?
It has a built-in pinpoint mode, which is enough to start. A handheld pinpointer speeds up recovery once you are digging regularly, but it is not required.
