The Orient Mako 3 is the third-generation version of one of the best-known affordable Japanese automatic dive watches. It runs on the in-house Orient F6922 movement (automatic with hand-winding and a hacking-seconds function the older versions lacked), rated at 200m water resistance with a screw-down crown, applied indices with thick lume, and a 41.7mm stainless case on a 22mm bracelet. Pros
- In-house F6922 automatic movement, now with hand-winding and hacking seconds the older Mako 2 lacked
- 200m water resistance with screw-down crown, this is a real dive watch, not a styled dress watch

- Orient is owned by Seiko Epson, so the case finishing and bracelet feel like a low-end Seiko Prospex
Cons
- Mineral crystal scratches easier than sapphire, expect a hairline scratch within the first year of normal wear
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to wind it daily?
No. If you wear it for 8+ hours a day, the automatic rotor winds the mainspring from normal wrist motion. The reserve is around 40 hours, so you can take it off for a day or two without it stopping. The Mako 3 also adds hand-winding, so you can spin the crown to start it instantly.
Is it actually safe to dive with?
Yes, rated 200m water resistance with a screw-down crown. It meets ISO 6425 spec for recreational scuba. The bezel is unidirectional so you can time bottom intervals properly.
How accurate is the movement?
Orient F6922 typically runs +/-15 to +/-25 seconds per day out of the box. That's normal for an automatic at this price. Mechanical movements aren't quartz-accurate by nature.
Does the bracelet fit a smaller wrist?
The bracelet has removable links and a fold-over clasp. Most jewelers can size it down in 5 minutes. Fits wrists from about 6.5 to 8 inches comfortably.
