The CERAKOTE Ceramic Headlight Restoration Kit is a 10-wipe system for clouded, yellowed polycarbonate headlight lenses. Headlight fogging is UV damage to the factory hard coat, not dirt, which is why washing does nothing. This kit works by chemically stripping the failed coating and laying down a ceramic coating in its place, so there is no wet sanding, no polishing compound, and no drill attachment. The ceramic layer is what separates it from a polish-only approach: polishing alone leaves bare plastic exposed to UV and it hazes again within months. Best fit: cars roughly 6 years and older with hazed lenses, and anyone who wants the job done in a driveway in under half an hour.
Pros
- No sanding, drill, or polishing compound, which is what makes this a 20-minute driveway job
- Lays down a ceramic coating instead of just polishing, so the clarity lasts past a few months
- Enough wipes in the kit to do both headlights with material left for a second car or a redo
- 4.6 stars across 7,443 reviews, unusual consistency for a headlight product
Cons
- It restores clarity to the lens surface but cannot fix a lens that is cracked, sandblasted with deep pitting, or fogged on the inside from a failed seal
Frequently asked questions
Does this work on lenses that are badly yellowed, not just lightly hazy?
Heavy yellowing is usually still surface-level failed hard coat, which the kit is designed for. What it cannot fix is deep pitting from road debris or haze on the inside of the lens caused by a broken housing seal.
How long does the ceramic coating last?
The ceramic layer is what gives it staying power compared to a polish, which typically hazes again in a few months. Life depends on sun exposure, so a garaged car holds clarity much longer than one parked outside in strong sun.
Do I need sandpaper or a drill?
No. That is the main difference from traditional restoration kits. The wipes chemically remove the failed coating, so there is no wet sanding step and no power tool.
Can I wax or seal over it afterward?
There is no need to, and adding a wax on top can interfere with the ceramic layer curing. Let it cure per the instructions and leave the lens alone.
