The Schott Zwiesel Basic Bar Selection Cocktail Cups are the glasses you'll see behind craft cocktail bars across Europe. They're machine-blown German Tritan crystal, lead-free and reinforced with titanium and zirconium, which means they're actually dishwasher safe (rare for crystal of this caliber) and chip-resistant on the rim. The Basic Bar line was designed by Munich mixologist Charles Schumann to give each style a purposeful shape, and the 8.8-ounce Cocktail Cup is the workhorse: wide enough for a flute-rimmed daiquiri, deep enough for a full martini pour, and elegant enough to serve a sour or a manhattan. A six-pack is the right starting count for entertaining. Best fit: home bartenders done with weddings-aisle glassware, gift for an aesthetic kitchen, the foundation of a real cocktail program.

Pros

  • Tritan crystal is reinforced with titanium and zirconium so it's genuinely chip-resistant and dishwasher safe, unusual at this caliber
  • Designed by Munich mixologist Charles Schumann; the 8.8-ounce shape works for cocktails, sours, and martinis without compromise
  • Made in Germany with laser-cut rims that pour cleanly and feel right against the lip
  • Six to a set is the correct count for entertaining; you won't be running short for a dinner party

Cons

  • Premium price for glassware, you can find adequate cocktail cups for a quarter of the cost if dishwasher-resistance and Schumann pedigree aren't worth it

Frequently asked questions

Are these actually dishwasher safe?

Yes, fully top-rack dishwasher safe. Tritan crystal won't etch, cloud, or discolor over time the way traditional lead crystal does. Use a non-bleach detergent for the longest life.

How big are they?

8.8-ounce capacity, about 6 inches tall with a 4-inch bowl diameter. Big enough for a full martini or manhattan pour with room for a generous garnish, not so big the drink looks under-poured.

Is this lead crystal?

No. Tritan is a lead-free crystal formulated with titanium and zirconium. It carries the brilliance and ring of lead crystal without the heavy-metal concern.

Will the rim chip in normal use?

The laser-cut rim is significantly more chip-resistant than the cut rims on standard crystal. Normal home use, dishwasher cycles, and the occasional clink are fine. Don't tap them together hard.

Are they good for wine or just cocktails?

They're designed for cocktails, the V-shape doesn't work well for wine aroma. For wine, look at Schott Zwiesel's Pure or Fortissimo lines instead.
