HRCOYES makes a solid brass plate set into a wooden base that stamps a design into the top of a large ice cube. Brass moves heat quickly, so you rest a cube on the plate and the ice's own contact melting does the work, roughly 10 to 15 seconds a side, and the pattern sinks in cleanly with no torch, flame or pressing involved. It is sized for the 2 inch cubes and spheres people already make for whiskey, bourbon and old fashioneds, and the brass wipes dry and stays out on a bar cart as an object rather than a tool that hides in a drawer. Fit note: it only reads on clear ice. Cloudy freezer-tray cubes have too much trapped air and the imprint vanishes into the white center, and the plate needs drying after use so the brass does not spot.
Pros
- Brass transfers heat fast enough to imprint without a torch or open flame
- Wooden base keeps the plate stable and lifts it off the counter
- Reusable and permanent, unlike stencil or novelty spray approaches
- Looks like genuine bar equipment left out on a cart or shelf
Cons
- Needs genuinely clear ice; cloudy freezer-tray cubes will not show the design
- Brass spots if it is left wet, so it has to be dried after every use
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to heat the brass first?
No. Brass conducts heat well enough that the ice cube's own contact melting does the work in roughly 10 to 15 seconds per side. Applying a flame is unnecessary and can discolor the finish over time.
Will it work on regular ice cubes from a freezer tray?
Not well. Standard tray cubes are cloudy because of trapped air, and the imprint disappears into that white core. You need clear ice, which means a directional freezing mold or slowly frozen boiled water in an insulated container. Clear cubes also melt slower in the glass, which is the other reason bars use them.
How do I keep the brass from tarnishing?
Dry it immediately after each use. Water sitting on brass spots it. A soft cloth handles daily care, and a standard brass polish will bring the shine back if it does dull with age.
Can I get my own initials or logo on it?
This is a fixed-pattern plate, not an engraving service. HRCOYES sells separate monogram letter stamps if you want initials, but the tray itself arrives with its design already set.
