A heatless curling headband is a padded velvet rod you wrap damp hair around before bed. Overnight, the hair dries in the wrapped shape, giving you a soft wave with no thermal damage. Most rods run short; this ZILAMPU version is roughly 70 inches, which is what makes it work on long and medium-length hair rather than just bobs. The rod is velvet over cotton padding, so it does not dig in while you sleep. The 9-piece set includes the headband, a claw clip, two velour ties, two elastic ties, a satin bonnet, a storage bag, and a spray bottle for damping dry hair. Best fit: anyone who has heat-damaged their ends, and people who would rather do their hair while asleep than in the morning.

Pros

  • No heat at all, so there is no cumulative thermal damage to your ends
  • 70 inches long, which actually works on long hair instead of running out of rod
  • Velvet over cotton padding, soft enough to sleep on without a pressure point
  • Set includes the bonnet, clips, ties, and a spray bottle, so nothing else to buy

Cons

  • There is a real learning curve; the first two or three attempts usually come out uneven while you work out tension and section size

Frequently asked questions

Does my hair need to be wet or dry?

Slightly damp. If your hair is already dry, use the included spray bottle to mist it first. Soaking wet hair will not dry fully overnight.

Will this work on short hair?

It is designed for medium and long hair. On a bob, the 70-inch rod is more length than you can wrap usefully.

How long do the curls last?

Typically a day, depending on your hair type and humidity. A light hairspray or mousse before wrapping helps them hold longer.

Why did my first try come out uneven?

Almost always section size and tension. Wrap smaller sections with consistent tension and make sure the ends are tucked, not left loose at the bottom of the rod.
