Viral pick: the top-down nursery cam parenting TikTok keeps recommending, with infrared night video that does not flood the room with red light.

Pros

  • Top-down 1080p crib view via the included floor stand, so you see the whole crib at a glance and miss less
  • App-based alerts (sound, motion, crying) instead of a parent unit that screams the whole house awake
  • IR night vision is genuinely clear and does not emit visible light into the room
  • Breathing tracking via the optional band, no skin sensors, no extra hardware on the baby

Cons

  • The deepest features (sleep tracking, breathing band data history) live behind a paid Insights subscription, so the long-term cost is more than the camera alone

Frequently asked questions

Does the Nanit Pro need WiFi to work?

Yes. The camera is WiFi-first and streams to your phone through the Nanit app. There is no separate parent unit. If your WiFi goes down, the camera does not work locally.

Is the subscription required, or can I use the monitor without it?

Live video, 2-way audio, and basic sound and motion alerts work for free, even after the included trial. The paid Insights plan adds sleep history, nighttime visit tracking, breathing band data, and longer video clip storage.

Can I have more than one camera on the same app?

Yes. The Nanit app supports multiple cameras and includes a split-screen view, so families with twins or two kids in separate rooms can watch both from one screen.

Is the camera safe to mount over the crib?

The included floor stand is designed to position the camera safely beside the crib, with the head suspended over the mattress without anything in the crib itself. The wall-mount and multi-stand versions exist for parents who prefer not to use a floor stand.

What is the maximum age the camera is useful for?

The hardware works as long as you want a camera in the room (toddler years and beyond). The breathing band specifically is sized for infants and is typically used in the first year.
