The Vaydeer M4 is a flat pad you set an optical mouse on top of, with a motor underneath that moves the mouse in small random intervals so the computer never registers as idle. Because the mouse moves physically and the pad never connects to the machine, there is no driver, no software install and no device ID on the system. It powers from a wall adapter or any USB port, including a phone charger, so it does not have to touch the work laptop at all. There is an on/off switch and an adjustable interval timer, and the motor runs under 45 decibels, which is quieter than a desk fan. Best fit: keeping Teams, Slack or Outlook from flipping to Away, and stopping a screen lock during a long document read.

Pros

  • No driver and no software install, so nothing appears in the system device list
  • Powers from a phone charger instead of the laptop, so it never connects to the work machine
  • Adjustable interval timer plus a physical on/off switch
  • Motor runs under 45 decibels, quieter than a typical desk fan

Cons

  • Only works with optical mice, so a trackpad-only laptop or a trackball will not trigger it

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with any mouse?

It works with optical mice, which is most modern mice. It will not work with a trackball, a laptop trackpad, or some mice with unusual sensor placement.

Can my IT department detect it?

It does not connect to the computer, so there is no driver or hardware ID. That said, IT policies vary and monitoring can measure activity in other ways, so understand your workplace rules before using one.

How does it get power?

Through a USB cable to a wall adapter, a power bank, or any USB port. You do not need to plug it into the computer you are keeping awake.

Is it noisy enough to hear on a call?

The motor is rated under 45 decibels, roughly library quiet. It is generally not picked up by a laptop mic on a call, but it is not silent in a dead-quiet room.
