The Fujifilm Instax Mini EVO is a hybrid instant camera that lets you capture, review, and selectively print photos before committing to film. Unlike traditional instant cameras that print everything, the Mini EVO has a rear LCD screen where you can preview shots, apply one of 100 creative effects (10 lens effects and 10 film effects), and only print the keepers. It connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth, letting you print photos directly from your phone and turn instant prints into shareable
Pros
- Hybrid digital-analog workflow lets you preview and edit before printing, eliminating film waste and saving money on shots you don't actually want.
- 100 creative combinations (10 lens effects plus 10 film effects) mean you can customize the exact look for each moment.
- Smartphone app integration via Bluetooth lets you print photos directly from your phone or your friends' phones, making it a party centerpiece.
- Built-in selfie mirror and dual shutter buttons (portrait and landscape) make it easy to frame shots without a second set of hands.
- Rechargeable USB-C battery lasts 100 prints per charge, eliminating the need for disposable battery packs that came with older instant cameras.
- Prints are 600 DPI quality, sharper and more vibrant than older Polaroid models.
Cons
- Film is expensive at roughly $0.79 per print when you multiply out the cost of Instax Mini film packs, adding up quickly if you print a lot.
- No way to adjust focus manually; relies on fixed autofocus, which can struggle in very low light or with close-up macro shots.
- The small 2" x 3" print size feels cramped if you want larger keepsake photos.
- Requires microSD card purchase (not included) if you want to save digital backups of printed photos.
- The app connectivity, while neat, isn't essential to basic operation and adds complexity if you just want to point and shoot.
Frequently asked questions
Can I preview photos before printing?
Yes, that's the hybrid feature. The rear LCD screen lets you see each shot digitally, apply effects, and decide whether to print it or delete it. Only print the ones you love.
Can I print photos from my phone?
Yes. Download the free Instax Mini EVO app, connect via Bluetooth, and print photos directly from your phone camera roll. Great for group photos or when you want to print someone else's shot from the party.
How long does the battery last?
The rechargeable lithium-ion battery is good for approximately 100 prints per charge. Charge via USB-C, which takes a few hours. Battery is sealed in the camera, so you can't swap it out like older Polaroids.
What size are the prints?
2 inches by 3 inches on Fujifilm Instax Mini film. Smaller than a Polaroid or Polaroid Now film, but larger than a postage stamp. Perfect for scrapbooks, dorm room walls, or stickers.
Does this work with Polaroid film?
No. The Instax Mini EVO uses Fujifilm Instax Mini film cartridges only. Instax film is cheaper per shot than Polaroid I-Type film and has a brighter color palette.
