Track 1 viral pick: hairtok keeps re-circulating Drybar Double Shot tutorials because the oval barrel actually delivers the 90s bouncy curtain blowout in a single pass.
Pros
- Oval 2.44-inch barrel is wider than a round brush so the brush head holds whole sections at once, which is what creates the bouncy 90s curtain shape
- Ionic ventilation cuts genuine drying time on long hair to under 15 minutes versus 25 to 30 with a separate dryer and round brush
- Under 1 pound, so a full blowout does not turn into the arm workout that wrecks technique on a heavier dryer-and-brush combo
Cons
- At $155 it is a real investment, and the cord can twist if you rotate the brush in one direction repeatedly, which a few owners report shortens the life past the 1-year mark
Frequently asked questions
Should I use the Drybar Double Shot on dry hair or wet hair?
Use it on damp hair, not soaking wet. Towel-dry first until your hair is about 70 percent dry, then go in with the Double Shot in 2-inch sections. Using it on dripping-wet hair burns out the motor faster and produces a less polished result.
Does it work on thick or curly hair?
Yes, but with technique. For thick or coily hair, work in smaller sections, hold the brush at the root for an extra 5 seconds for volume, and use a heat protectant spray first. The 2.44-inch oval is also Drybar's largest size, which is the right pick for thicker hair specifically.
Is there a dual-voltage version for international travel?
No. The standard Drybar Double Shot sold on Amazon is 120V North America only. Plugging it into a 220V outlet with just an adapter will damage the motor. Drybar does not currently sell a dual-voltage version of the Double Shot.
How does it compare to the cheaper Revlon One-Step?
The Revlon One-Step is around $50 and dries fast for a smooth straight blowout, but its barrel is paddle-shaped, so it does not hold a whole section the way the oval Drybar does. If you want sleek-and-straight, Revlon is fine. If you want bounce and volume at the root, the Drybar is the upgrade.
