The Power Perch replaces nothing and drills nothing. You remove the existing outlet faceplate, sandwich the shelf bracket behind it, and reattach the faceplate with the longer screws provided, which leaves a small shelf projecting below or above the outlet rated for up to 10 pounds. Because it hangs off the outlet screw rather than the wall, there are no holes and no anchors, which makes it viable in a rental. It is made in Iowa from molded plastic and fits standard duplex outlets. Best fit: a smart speaker that currently sits on the floor with a cord running up the wall, a phone charging in a hallway, a bathroom where the counter has no room, or a bedroom with no nightstand. It does not work on GFCI or oddly shaped decorator plates without checking fit first.
Pros
- No drilling and no anchors, it mounts behind the existing outlet faceplate
- Rated to about 10 pounds, enough for a smart speaker or a phone and charger
- Installs in a couple of minutes with just a screwdriver
- Made in the USA rather than a generic import at the same price
Cons
- It only fits standard duplex outlets, so GFCI outlets and some decorator plates need checking before you order
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an electrician to install it?
No. You remove the cover plate screw, slide the bracket behind the plate, and put the screw back with the longer one provided. No wiring is touched.
Will it fit a GFCI outlet?
The standard version is sized for a normal duplex outlet. GFCI and decorator style plates are a different shape, so check which version you need before ordering.
How much weight will it really hold?
It is rated to about 10 pounds. A smart speaker, a phone, or a small plant is well within that. A stack of books is not.
Can it go above the outlet instead of below?
Yes, it mounts either orientation. Below is more common for chargers so the cord drops straight down, above works better for a speaker.
