The ARTISTRO set is 100 acrylic paint markers with two tips per pen, a brush tip for filling areas and a fine tip for outlines and lettering. Acrylic markers differ from regular markers in that the ink is opaque water-based paint, so light colors show up on black paper, dark glass and stone rather than disappearing the way dye-based ink does. They are acid-free and non-toxic, and they work out of the box without priming or shaking a valve open. Surfaces include glass, ceramic, wood, rock, canvas, metal and fabric. On non-porous surfaces like glass the paint sits on top unless you heat-set it in an oven, which matters if you want a painted wine glass to survive washing. Best fit: teens who letter and doodle, rock painting, and DIY gift projects.

Frequently asked questions
Will the paint wash off glass or ceramic?
Yes, unless you heat-set it. Let the piece dry fully, then bake at around 350 degrees for 30 minutes and let it cool in the oven. Unsealed paint scratches off with a fingernail.
Do these work on dark surfaces?
That is the main reason to buy acrylic markers over regular ones. The ink is opaque paint, so white and pastels show up clearly on black paper, dark rock and tinted glass.
Do they need shaking or priming before first use?
No. These come ready to write out of the box, unlike valve-action paint pens that require pumping the tip to start ink flow.
Are they safe for kids?
The ink is water-based, acid-free and non-toxic. Standard marker supervision applies for younger children, since the paint does stain fabric and carpet before it is washed out.
